If you’d asked me as an eighteen-year-old college leaver where I’d be on the eve of my thirtieth birthday, I wouldn’t have been able to give you an answer. I simply didn’t know what was lying in wait for me in the big, bad future, nor did I really care to know. I hadn’t been one for grand plans in life, not for a long time, and that was still true today. Plans just lead to disappointment, I told myself, both in yourself and from others.
